The Secret is Out



Every now and then a day happens along where I am reminded why I love teaching. Last week held one of those days. Maybe this sort of thing occurs more frequently for elementary teachers, but for high school geometry teachers, not so much.

Two students from last year stopped by my room to give me this painting they made in art class. And they gave it to me for no other reason than to make me smile. Well, it worked. Bet you didn't know it. That's right. I'm a Jedi Mistress. See my Jedi robe AND light saber.

May the FORCE be with you, Kendall and Sam. I love you too.

As a fellow teacher -- I have to say I'm soooo getting how much this must mean to you!! I don't think kids could ever IMAGINE how much these things touch our hearts. You must be very special to these two!

I can relate to your reaction to the painting. One of my mental health clients gave me a hand written recipe for dip that was only a few lines long, but was such a delight that he took the time to share. Another drew pictures (crude drawings at best) on every scrap of paper, paper towels, cardboard toilet paper rolls, styrofoam plates, unfolded foil from cigarette packs, and every other imaginable medium. The art work became more important to me when he became more depressed and lost his desire to draw. I found a picture he had drawn in a winter coat pocket I had not worn in several years of a Christmas tree with colored balls...both of these pieces are as special to me as the Jedi Queen painting is to you. Guess that is why we have those reminders when we really feel like pulling our hair out (or some one else's).

The force is strong with you, Jedi Mistress.

How sweeeet and touching. I loved teaching high school and often think back fondly of the students. I was lucky to teach graphic design and my students were often the ones that guidance didn't know what to do with. My heart is touched again looking at your painting and remembering my dear ones.
